Last week, we continued talking about winter and winter clothing and did some fun activities with “The Mitten” by Jan Brett! This book lent itself well to several speech/language goals. Just a few of the skills we practiced included sequencing the story, labeling animals, and making predictions.
Jan Brett has some book companion resources available for free on his website. My students enjoyed making mittens of their own and filling them with the animals.
We also had fun making and retelling the story using printables from this TPT site. Some of my students designed their own mittens using construction paper and craft supplies, and others enjoyed playing with toy animals similar to the pictures. This book provided lots of conversation on winter, winter clothing, and winter animals! I’m looking forward to pulling this out again next year!
