Coming back from a long winter break was tough, but the kids were very excited by this week’s lesson plans! We talked all about snow, cold weather, and winter clothing…something that was finally relevant to our single digit weather! The lesson was introduced by reading The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats.
There are lots of great free printables available that pair with this book. I found great pictures for sequencing here. We also talked A LOT about winter clothing vocabulary including hats, mittens, coats, boots, etc. We practiced sorting winter clothing and winter activities with this printable on Teachers Pay Teachers. Coloring worksheets helped us through some artic practice this week.
After reading the story, my student’s had fun creating their own snowy day scene. Using this template, we glued our own snowy day people onto construction paper and added cotton and stickers for snow decorations.
This was another opportunity for students to practice targets, retell the story, and expand utterance length. Next week, we will continue our winter/winter clothing lesson with The Mitten by Jan Brett!
